Finally the new year is here. 2009 has been incredibly exclusive. Now is the time for a NEW YEAR 2010. There are generally two ways o start a new year. One to look to the coming year and make plans and other to look back to the year bygone. And one much used much abused way to look forward to a new year is a NEW YEAR RESOLUTION. From the third week of DECEMBER every year, otherwise perfectly rational people give way to these resolutions believing that somehow JANUARY 1 can do that magic to shoo there bad habits away. People make these resolutions year after year only to fall to there daily routine forgetting about the promises even before the month is out thus bringing themselves nothing but guilt. Why do we then bother to actually go for the trouble of searching one appropriate resolution that we can never achieve.
The other far more annoying conceit is the end of the year list. How will it actually matter to somebody if AVATAR was the best ever made films or if CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA or BLUE or any other film for that matter was a total flop. We weren't a part of it anyway. These top 10 books, top 10 movies, top 10 actresses etc is the most abashing and aggressive way of looking down upon those who could not make it to your list of top 10. My theory to this vile is that it is our own way of putting the past into neat clutches. As for me nobody cares if I think ROBERT PATTINSON makes it to the no 1 or SHAH RUKH KHAN stands nowhere in my top 10 for me. We have brain to create our own lists then why use somebody Else's to guide us. Somebody with too much time and not much work would notice and we would argue and rinse and recreate the same at the end of 2010.
